Blog post: Green eggs and ham critical thinking #1
I am writing this response on the story green eggs and ham by dr seuss. The meaning of this story is that you shouldn't judge something by looking at its cover. Its about how one of the characters is trying to make the other eat green eggs and ham. But he doesn't want to eat the eggs and ham because they are green and they look nasty. This story is fair because at the end he eats the eggs and ham and realizes that he should never judge something and that he should try the food before he critisizes it. The author wrote this book to show kids to never judge something by looking at its cover and to actually get to know somebody before judging them.

Blog post critical thinking
Question number 3: How does this text make you think about justice in the world?
The story that I am writing about is the Sneetches by Dr. Suesse. It is about how the star bellied sneetches have more rights and power than the sneetches without stars on their bellies. In the story the star bellied sneetches are the ones playing games and having fun and having parties and the ones without stars are not allowed to join any of these activities and games. I think this connects to the world because its not fair to treat people because of their race and everyone is equal. In the end of the story they realize that they are all the same star or no star and they all become friends and they let the ones with no stars join in the parties, games and activities.

Blog post #7: Catching fire
In the story Catching fire Katniss comes across a couple of problems. One of them is that President Snow is making her marry Peeta. Another is that there is going to be an uprising in Panem.
A problem that Katniss faces in the story is that president snow is making her marry Peeta. This is a problem because she doesn't know if she loves Peeta. But if she doesn't do this then she could hurt her best friends and her family like prim her mom and gale. Katniss thinks that President snow is making her marry peeta because if they get married then they will have kids and there kid will have to compete in the hunger games and he/she will most likely die. She solves this problem by marrying peeta because she doesnt want to put any of her friends and family in danger.
Another problem Katniss faces is that there is going to be an uprising in panem. An uprising is when all of the districts riot and try to take over. There is going to be an uprising because there is not suppose to be 2 winners and all of the families children that died in the hunger games are mad and are starting to riot. She solves this problem by doing what the president says.
In conclusion, katniss solves both of these problems. I can relate to katniss because if my family and friends lives were on the line I would do anything to keep them safe.

Blog post #7: Hurricane sandy article
The article "48 Hours: Before, during, and after Hurricane Sandy in Seaside Heights and Cape May" is about how hurricane sandy caused so much damage to a lot of people all over the east coast. In Seaside Heights, New jersey there was an amusement park and after hurricane sandy it was all gone and pretty much all of new jersey lost power and got flooded. Some say it was the worst storm the east coast has ever faced. Some houses in new jersey were broken down and shattered. Most people in seaside heights were to evacuate seaside heights.
In the article it says: "Thats what new jersey did last year right before irene hit but this is different, a hurricane buddying with a nor'easter. Almost everyone believes the damage will be substancial and the pain, perhaps unpreceded. This means that they thought that the storms weren't going to be bad and that they didn't have to worry about them.
I think that it is so sad that thousands of people were killed and affected by hurricane sandy. People lost their homes, lost power and were killed by falling trees and other things. I was lucky that i wasn't affected by hurricane sandy. I feel bad for everybody that was affected by the hurricane and I think schools should do fundraisers to raise money for the people that lost their homes and most of there belongings.

Blog Post#6 revising number three
In the book Cirque Du freak by Darren shan darren has to make a couple of big decisions. One of them is if he should become a vampire to save his best friend Steve. Another is if he should go to the cirque du freak. This is a great book all around. It has a thrilling plot and you never want to stop reading it. I recomend this book to everyone that is into a fast and thrilling story.
One of the big decisions Darren has to make is if he should go to the cirque du freak. This is a big decision because he doesnt know what the freak show is about. He thinks he will have a good but it is extremely dangerous and if you get hurt or injured its not the shows fault. When he is there him and Steve are almost killed by the wolf man. He is half man and half woman. Darren steals madam octa when there at the show( a poisonous spider) and the spider bites Steve and puts poison in steves blood.
Another big decision Darren has to make is if he should die for his friend Steve. He could either become a vampire assistant and lose his life as a human and save steve or let steve die and stay a human. If he becomes a vampire steve will be cured by mr creplsey the vampire that darren stold the spider from.
There are a couple of reasons why Darren makes the two decisions. The reason he went to the cirque du freak is because he was interested and he wanted to witness new things. One reason he became a vampire is because he didnt want steve to die and he wanted him to go back home to his mother. Another is because he might get arrested for attempted murder because of what happened with steve.
In conclusion if darren and steve wouldn't have gone to the show steve wouldn't have gotten sick and darren wouldn't have had to give up his life. And him and steve would still be friends. I think if I were in Darrens position I wouldn't have given up my life because I would miss my family too much.

Blog Post #5: The Hunger Games
Big Question: What are Katnisses problems? How does she solve them?
In the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins the main character Katniss Everdeen faces two big problems throughout the story. The first one is when her sister Primrose Everdeen is picked at the reaping to compete in the 74th annual hunger games. Another really big problem that she faces is that she doesn't know weither to kill Peeta or not because she doesn't know if she loves him.
In the beginning of the book Katniss' sister is picked in the reaping for the 74th annual Hunger games. I know this because in the story Effie Trinket reaches her hand in the jar full of names for the reaping and then says: "Primrose Everdeen."This is a big problem for Katniss because this is Prim's first reaping. The Hunger Games is a battle to the death for fame, fortune and wealth. And Prim is only 12 and shes really small and almost has no chance of winning. Katniss is worried because Prim was picked and now she is pretty much dead unless someone volunteers for her because she doesn't know how to fend for herself an she will die quickly.
Another problem Katniss faces is that she doesn't know if she should kill Peeta or let him live because she doens't know if she loves him. I know this because during the games she had multiple chances to kill him and she let him run away and when he was wounded she healed him with the stuff she got from Haymitch. I think this means she has feelings for him but she doesn't know what type of feelings they are.
Katniss solves her first big problem by volunteering as tribute for the hunger games in stead of her sister. I know this because in the story it says: "I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute." This happens while Prim is walking onto the stage to be taken away from district 12. She does this because she would rather die than having to watch her sister die in front of all of Panem. She also does this because if Prim goes into the arena she is pretty much already dead. The reason she pretends like shes in love with Peeta is so that they can get sponsors to give them food and medicine to keep them alive. I know this because right before the games Haymitch tells her to fake it just for that reason so they can stay alive.
I can relate to Katniss because if my brother weren't trained for the hunger games and he was picked and I was trained I would volunteer for him. This essay proves that Katniss is a good sister and role model.

blog post #4 Drummer Boy of shiloh
In the book, The Drummer Boy of Shiloh by Ray Bradbury the main character Joby faces two problems. One of them is that he lacks self confidence and the other is that the general puts a lot of pressure on Joby for the battle. I can relate to Joby because in 7th grade your parents and teachers put a lot of pressure on you to get good grades and get into a good high school. But the general is telling Joby that he is the heart of the army and if he doesn't play good the army could do something wrong or lose.
One of the problems that Joby faces is that he lacks self confidence. Joby lacks confidence in the story because he has to play his drums in the army but has no weapon or shield. The story says, "Me thought the boy, I got only a drum, two sticks to beat it, and no shield." I think this means that Joby doesn't want to go out to battle with only his drum, two sticks and no weapon or shield because he is positive he will die. This quote shows that Joby doesn't want to do his job.
Another problem that Joby faces during the story is that the general puts a lot of pressure on him throughout the story. The general puts a lot of pressure on Joby by telling him hes the heart of the army and he needs to set the pace for the army or the soldiers will fail. In the story the general says "You boy, You are the heart of the army. You are the heart of the army listen to me now." This puts a lot of pressure on Joby because now if Joby messes us or plays the wrong beat the army could get distracted and people will die. If Joby beats slow then the heart would be slow in the men.
Joby resolves the first problem by talking things over with the general. The general shows Joby that its ok to be afraid and scared by telling him its ok to cry. When the general tells Joby how important his job is to the army he builds his confidence and knows that he has to stay strong and play a good beat to help his side win the battle. Joby resolves the other problem by embracing the fact that he has to go out in the battle the next day and play his drums so he thinks he might as well play them well and stay strong for the army.
The story The Drummer Boy of Shiloh by Ray Bradbury is about a drummer boy named Joby and how he needs to play his drums in the battle of shiloh during the civil war with no weapon or shield. My essay is about how Joby faces and resolves problems during the story. His problems are lack of self confidence and that the general is putting a lot of pressure on him. In the story I think Joby is very brave because he goes to a battle and plays the drums with no shield or weapon. I think Joby's drum is a symbol of hope. Its a symbol of hope because in the beginning of the story Joby was hiding behind it and then at the end he was holding it up towards the night sky confidently. He did this because the general taught him that his job is just as important as the soldiers. In the end, Joby gains confidence and believes in himself. He also realizes his job as the drummer boy is important too.

blog post #3: Cirque du freak
Question: What are some big decisions darren have to make? Why does he make these decisions?
In the book "Cirque du Freak" by Darren Shan, Darren has to make multiple decisions. One of them is if he should risk his life to save his best friend Steve. Another is if he should go to the cirque du freak.
One of the big decisions Darren has to make is if he should give up his life as a human or not. Darren chooses to give up his life as a human to become a vampire to save his best friend Steve. He makes this decision because he doesn't want Steve to die and if he does die Darren would be in so much trouble and would be accused of killing Steve so he might think he has nothing else to live for if his best friend dies. Darren gives up his life to save Steve and he has to become a vampire to get the cure from Mr. Crepsley. So he fakes his death and goes to be Mr. Crepsleys vampire assistant.
Another big decision Darren has to make is if he should go to the cirque du freak or not. Darren chooses to go because he thinks it will be cool and that he will have fun time. But when he is there he and Steve are almost killed by the half man half wolf freak and that is when he finds Mr. Crepsley. Mr. Crepsley scares Steve and Darren away but Darren comes back and steals madam octa, Mr. Crepsleys poisonous spider. That is when Steve and Darrens lives change forever.
In conclusion, if Darren and Steve wouldn't have gone to the Cirque du freak Darren would be able to go back home and live a normal life and steve would have never been sick and they would still be best friends.

2nd blog post
I like Paul's reading response because he gives a really good summary of the story and he makes his response really clear and easy to understand the story. I also like this response because he puts a lot of thought into it and uses quotes.
I also like Sydney's post because she gives a clear understanding of the book A long walk to water. Also she gives a good description of the main character. She gives a good understanding of the main characters characteristics and how she changes during the story.

1st Reading Response: Cirque Du Freak
Cirque Du Freak is about a boy named Darren Shan. When him and his friends find a flyer to a freak show called the Cirque Du Freak things get a little wild. Darren meets the host of the freak show Mr. Tall and mr tall gives him two tickets to the show. After the show him and his best friend Steve sneak back stage and Darren steals Mr Crepsley's poisonous spider, Madam Octa while steve is talking to Mr Crepsley. Then one day Steve goes over to Darrens house to watch him play with the spider. Madam octa climbs up steves neck and poisons him. When Steve is in the hospital Darren goes back to the Cirque Du Freak to find out if there is a cure for madam octas bites. Mr. Crepsley, madam octas trainer says the only way darren can get a cure is if darren turns into mr crepsleys vampire assistant. This would mean faking his death and leaving his parents forever for Darren just to save his best friend Steve. Darren accepts this offer and fakes his death to save his friend steve. When steve gets cured he finds out Darren is a vampire and becomes a Vampire Hunter.
In the beginning of the book when Darrens teacher told him to not go to the cirque du freak he didn't listen and went anyway. This is when he was being nieve of the freak show. Later on when he stole the poisonous spider from Mr Crepsley he was being brave. And when the spider poisoned his best friend steve he was being caring because he had to sacrafice his life as a human being to let steve live. Over the course of the book Darren changed from Nieve, to brave and to caring.
